Thursday, September 7, 1967

Over this past summer, numerous acts of vandalism have been done around the Fulda area. Monday evening, still another act was committed. Windows were broken at the feed mill of the Farmers Coop Commission Co., and the bathroom facilities at the ball park received an undesired painting of words and symbols.

The 4-H livestock judging team put it’s knowledge to a real test when it competed at the Minnesota State Fair August 26 – September 4.

Bob West has been hired by the Farmers Coop Commission Company as a ‘Sales and Service’ man. Bob comes to Fulda from Hartley, Iowa where he worked as a feed mill manager.

Henry Mannie, former Dundee man, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 1967 at the age of 70 years old.

Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Deutschman are the parents of a baby girl born Thursday morning, August 31st. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Hunter and Mr. and Mrs. Art Deutschman.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright on Tuesday, August 29th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Wright.

20th Annual Southwestern Minnesota Horse Show to be held in Fulda September 10th at the Fulda baseball park.

Two local boys enlist in Air Force; Ronald Kellen and Larry Kommes.

The Gerald Bodelson VFW Post 9017 celebrates their 40th Anniversary on September 15th.

Rose Magnus is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

The Fulda Post Office is holding an open house on September 12th. Plan to tour the building and see how the mail is sorted.

The Fulda School Board approved the hiring of Mrs. Judy Stenzel as first grade teacher. Joint Powers Agreement with Slayton for the services of Art teacher Trent Pearson was approved. The board set the substitute pay at $47.00.

The first day back to school had students smiling from ear to ear as they entered the building to meet their new teachers.

Twins, Taylor and Blake Ahlers look a little scared, in fact a bit tearful, as they look for their first grade classroom on the first day of school.

Fulda High School welcomes six foreign exchange students for the 1997-98 school year.

The Fulda Fire Department helped the City of Avoca test their new drywell, a pipe coming out of the lake to refill pumper truck tanks. The Fulda truck was able to operate three hoses at the same line without any significant drops in water pressure.

Justin Thiner enlists the help of brothers, Brandon and Jacob, in painting the Fulda Depot over the Labor Day weekend as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Chuck Holinka was the first this season to knock in a hole-in-one at the Town and Country Golf Course. Chuck, using a six iron drove the ball 155 yards and laid it in the cup on hole 2 on July 7th.  A little over a month later, Lyle Busch claimed his hole-in-one on August 17th on the 8th hole.

The traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall was at Tracy recently. The Wall That Heals, which stretched across most of the football field, was stark black with white letters and contained the 58,202 names of the POW-MIA from the Vietnam Conflict 1957-1975.

Julius Ranum is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Newly elected officers for the Fulda Lion’s Club are Bill Sauer, President, Orrin Clarke, 1st Vice, Duane Jans, 2nd Vice, Scott Clarke, 3rd Vice, Dan Uttech, Secretary/Treasurer, Henry Magnus, Tail Twister and John Muller, Membership.

Citizens of Tomorrow include Kelsey Heppler, Allexus Nordsiden, and Haily Goertz.

Sandra and Mike Berge are the parents of a son, Niko born August 10th. Grandparents are Harlan and Mary Ann Boom and John and Ruth Berge.
