On the outskirts of the little town of Iona, Minnesota in Murray County lives Penny Platt with her husband Bruce. The couple raised their children in this house, Josh, Matt, Amy and Patrick and four grandchildren love to visit. Add puppies to this mix and you have the perfect recipe for how to spread love to others. But, this isn’t all play, there is a lot of work that goes into the business; Penny’s spotless kennel attests to that.
Penny has long had an interest in dogs, but husband Bruce wasn’t quite as enamored of the animals. About seventeen years ago, while working outside the home at the Wilmont Bar, Penny expressed to her co-workers a desire to own a dog. Voila, they gifted her with Gracie, who by the way is still a member of the Platt family, held in highest esteem and treated like a royal grandparent.
Upon entering the Platt home by the back door you find an entry of small kennels filled with the most adorable little puppies, Cavaliers. They’ll melt your heart if you let them. By the way, these pups are only in the entry because they are babies. Mom’s ready to give birth come into the house from the kennel, a separate building next door to their house. Last year Penny had only two litters of pups and this year she has already had two litters and two more dogs are bred. “Usually I try to have between two and five litters a year,” she explained. Penny is well-known in dog circles as a competent breeder and sells these little balls of fur for $1800.
