If you enjoy being creative through the use of fabric and thread, you would definitely have fun in a quilting class with Fulda Community Education instructor Vicki Hansen.
The Fall Quilt Class met for the first time on Thursday at Fulda High School. Nine students learned that they will be making a Windmills and Pinwheels quilt. “The fabric colors will be your choice. Your finished quilt can show your personality through your choices,” Hansen informed her students.
Hansen and the class members talked about the fabric hues and how to make sure that fabrics blend, but are not too similar in color and design. “You need the light and dark hues for the contrasts,” Hansen stated.
“This is an easy quilt to make. There are not any hard parts to it. The pattern directions list eight colors for the large quilt and six colors for the smaller quilt,” Hansen explained. One of the instruction sheets designed by Hansen for her students was that of a swatch sheet. The paper contained places for swatches of each of the fabrics chosen by the individual student. The swatches were numbered so that the student would have no difficulty in recalling which fabric was number one through number eight in their quilt.
A sample of the Windmills and Pinwheels quilt was hung so that Hansen and the students could view it as she described various blocks in the pattern.
