Raider Ramblings by Superintendent Loy Woelber- May 1, 2019

Greetings from Fulda Schools,

I am thankful that I did not write this a week ago and  comment on the end of snow!  At least by the time you read this the snow will be gone once again.  I feel my aging bones ache a little with this recent 6 month of winter and 6 months of summer.  I’d love to see spring and fall again.  Here’s to a wonderful May and may our crops get planted and spring activities all completed in style!  Updates from my chair include:

*We are seeing some great State testing results coming back from our recent standardized testing and it’s nice to see most of the kids taking the tests seriously.  Hat’s off to the teachers for making the most of a tough winter and keeping the kids on a routine to the best of their abilities.

*We have been working on some musical chairs with teaching staff and I am quite confident that we will not skip a beat.  We have a veteran 7-12 math teacher in Sheryl Woelber joining us full time in the 7-12 to replace Samantha Voss.  She has a lot of experience with all levels of kids as well as experience in the multicultural arena.  We signed on with our very own Allison Vandenbosch Goetting to teach 6th grade reading as well as build our soon to be amazing ESL / ELL / EL program.  We see a wonderful opportunity to better serve our multicultural students.  A strong program led by Ali along with the small class sizes, room to grow and great teachers will give us an elementary that we all can be proud of for years to come.  We also will be welcoming a new Kindergarten teacher as well as a Phy Ed and Health teacher in the next couple weeks.  More on that later.

*Ugh, it’s spring so that means we all walk around our homes and farms and go into shock thinking of all the work that needs to be done and of course how much will it cost!  We are no different at the school just multiply the work and the costs by 100!  It’s behind us now but it’s time to spend money on our buildings and we must get caught up.  We need to get on a roof replacement schedule, we need to replace aging boilers and we must get to work on the windows and some security.  I have yet to visit with anyone upset at keeping our buildings nice.  I would prefer to keep our taxes where they are at and be creative in using our current enrollment increases to balance between staffing and fixing buildings.  We have very nice buildings with a lot of character and we will keep moving forward on the tender loving care they need.

*Thank you for your support of the schools during this long school year!
