Superintendent Loy Woelber began Fulda School’s History Center when he accepted the superintendent’s position for the district. A former social studies teacher, history is of great importance to Superintendent Woelber, who understands that preserving history can instill pride in those who have been a part of it.
He began a school’s first history center in 1995 at Chokio-Alberta Public Schools. “Chokio-Alberta was the first school of consolidated country schools in Minnesota. When they consolidated, all of their class pictures disappeared. They were put in a basement. They were found there and a lady helped me with them. We hung all of those photos up in their history center. It brought about a lot of memories and a sense of pride for everyone involved with those schools,” Superintendent Woelber explained.
From Chokio-Alberta, Superintendent Woelber accepted a position at Westbrook-Walnut Grove Schools, where, once again, there was no history center to proudly acknowledge past years. When he shared his enthusiasm about the value of a school history center, one was started. It continues to grow as area residents donate items pertinent to the Wildcats and the Chargers.
