The area is not foreign to flooding – particularly after last summer’s event. However, everything that was witnessed here is nothing in comparison to Iowa and Nebraska where entire communities were washed away.
Eric and Lauren Guy of Lake Wilson have friends who live in Nebraska. When scenes of the water started flooding the television sets they made calls to find out how the people they knew were doing. “I have a friend who lives in West Point,” said Lauren. “I’ve known her since kindergarten. We just wanted to find out if there was anything we could do.”
Eric operates Epoxy Solutions and Repairs. His business involves dairy milk rooms along with hog slat resurfacing, amongst bar/counter tops and garage/shop floors. Eric was scheduled to be in Nebraska to do some work in a couple of weeks but after listening to stories from friends, the couple decided they needed to do something.
Lauren put a message on Facebook Thursday stating they were going to get together supplies of all kinds to bring to Nebraska. They were asking for anything that a household might use as well as feed and hay for livestock. By Saturday morning the couple, along with their two daughters, were loaded and headed south towards Nebraska. Loaded with hay as well as a 6 x 12 enclosed trailer, the Guys’ were prepared to help – even if it was small in comparison to the devastation experienced by so many in Nebraska.
