After emerging from a back-and-forth first half with a 27-22 halftime lead, the Murray County Central Rebels gradually pulled away in the second half and claimed a 68-54 victory over the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes in a Red Rock Conference high school boys’ basketball game last Friday night (February 14) at Slayton.
The lead changed hands several times in the first 18 minutes, and MCC extended its five-point halftime lead to 10 (35-25) a couple of minutes into the second half.
HL-O/F trimmed the gap to four (41-37) a few minutes later, but MCC went on a 9-0 run and increased the lead back to double digits and maintained that spread throughout the remaining time — leading by as many as 17 points (68-51) — and outscoring the Coyotes 41-32 overall in the second half.
