Recouping after Winter Storm Wesley

There are many, many stories that are coming out in the aftermath of the storm that meteorologists have named Winter Storm Wesley. We share just a few here as we have been made aware of the many trials and acts of kindness that have come about as residents of the Plains strived to stay warm and endure the ravages of Winter Storm Wesley.

The storm received its name on April 8. Rain began falling on April 9th and snow fell that day from the states of Washington and Montana southward to the Central Rockies and into the northern Plain By Wednesday, April 10th, blizzard warnings were issued for more than 3.9 million people with the storm stretching more than 900 miles.  Snow fell across Wyoming, Colorado and Utah and became more widespread over the Central Plains and the Midwest.

Thundersnow was reported early on Wednesday morning in many parts of the state of South Dakota.

Thursday, April 11th: Heavy snow fall was reported from Colorado to Minnesota. Because of the storm and the strong winds, heavy icing was seen in northwest Iowa, southeast South Dakota and southern Minnesota causing downed power lines and the loss of electricity to thousands of homes and businesses.

With one-half inch of ice coating power lines and other exposed surfaces,  residents in southwestern Minnesota lost power on Wednesday evening. Nobles Cooperative Electric kept their customers updated with Facebook posts as linemen and crews worked to begin restoring power to the more than 4,000 who had lost it.

Focusing on the City of Fulda, there were some very dangerous situations with poles broken into splintered wood and lines laying on the ground.
