The Fulda Raiders traveled to Marshall this past Saturday in their annual girl/boy double header with Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. The game gives each team an opportunity to play at the RA facility at Southwest State University.
This outing for Fulda, however, wasn’t a real pretty sight. The RTR Knights, 16-3, on the season feature a young talented group with the majority of their players sophomores and juniors and all averaging at least 6’.
The Knights jumped on the scoring trail with Cooper Hansen nailing his opening shot. Fulda’s Dalton Slinger answered with a three of his own. With back-to-back offensive scores from Jonah Johnson and Weston Kirk, Fulda was down 6-3. A bucket from Slinger made it a one point contest, 5-6.
As RTR put together an 8-1 rally, the Raiders were scrambling to pull themselves out of the hole. Justin Dierks found his way to the hole for two points. RTR answer with a bucket of their own. Following two free throws from Slinger, the Knight’s Chris Muecke dropped in his first two points of the game.
On three consecutive trips, RTR was able to capitalize and quickly jumped out to a double digit lead, 22-11. Two free throws from Jarred Jans cut the Raider deficit eight, 17-25. But just that quickly, a rally by RTR put Fulda back in the hole 36-19.
