Fulda High School senior Sam Cheadle had himself a remarkable all-around day at the prestigious Sentinel Relays in Fairmont last Friday (May 4), placing high in four events, including a winning performance in the high jump.
Cheadle won the seven-school Class A competition by clearing the bar at 5-10, winning the event by four inches. It was Cheadle’s fifth high jump victory of the season.
Sam finished the day with a team-leading total of 31 points as he also placed second in both the triple jump (personal record leap of 41-4.75) and the long jump (18-2.25) for 16 more points (10 for first in the high jump). Cheadle’s final five points came on a fourth-place in the 100-meter dash with a PR time of 12.68.
“Sam had a great all-around day,” summed up Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda head boys’ track and field coach Brad Holinka. “He won the high jump again, ran a strong 100 meters, competed well in the long jump and went out and leaped his all-time best — by far — in the triple jump. Going over 41 feet is an awesome performance in that complex event.”
The Sentinel Relays were scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for the top eight places in all 18 events.
