Fulda School Board held their regular monthly meeting on Monday evening at the high school. A lengthy discussion was held regarding the present and future of the high school’s marching band program. Band instructor Matt Saxman shared that summer marching band activities are not always well attended, which when committed to march in area community parades, can cause problems such as lack of section instrumentalists. Missing band students causes the music to sound quite different and the learned marching to have to be restructured at the last minute.
School board members encouraged Mr. Saxman to continue on with the marching band program for this summer, and to encourage students and parents to be more responsible in their attendance for parades and other area community events.
Several board members expressed concern of how the residents of the Fulda community would react to Fulda High School not having a marching band program. They also understood that a quality marching band program cannot be continued without the support of the students, parents and community.
