During the past three years, Franklin Brandt, better known as Smokey, has learned a new hobby which he has come to thoroughly enjoy. He was introduced to Latch Hook and spends time each day adding yarn to his latest canvas!
In the past three years, Smokey estimates that he has completed sixty latch hook pieces. Some of his favorites are a wolf, completed in a round with a background of blue and Christ Knocking at Heart’s Door, which is done in tones of browns and yellows. The wolf was the first latch hook that he made.
But along with those two latch hook items which he completed, and has kept, Smokey works on his hobby almost on a daily basis. He is currently making Christmas gifts for several family members.
The latch hook of Christ Knocking at Heart’s Door hangs in the dining room of Maple Lawn Senior Care.
When asked how he started latch hooking, Smokey admits that he was a bit “bored” and Annette Kremer, Maple Lawn Senior Care Center’s Activities Director got him started. “She is a really nice person and she did one and then I got started doing it. Annette orders me the kits when I find what I want to work on,” Smokey commented.
But not only does he create latch hook pieces from kits, he has also created pieces using a a plain canvas and a photo. He recently completed a latch hook item that is of the Maple Lawn campus. It is done in greens, black, gray and tan.
