Fulda High School is introducing the STEAM program to the 7th and 8th grade students for the 2018-2019 School year. Chris Bambrick is the instructor for the program and he is very excited to be offering the students the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills to projects that have been developed for the STEAM class.
“What we know as educators is that math comes into science very often. Engineering comes into science very often and it makes sense to have the students learning about science, engineering, art, and math and combining that learning with the technology that is available,” Mr. Bambrick said.
Bambrick said that there is a push for the Next Generation Science Standards which incorporate fundamental learning of science, technology, engineering, art, and math as well as applicable ways to combine that learning into critical thinking and problem solving.
The students in the STEAM class will be encouraged in applying critical thinking skills, and challenged to design items such as towers that will withstand winds blown at them. “That is just one of the projects that the STEAM class will be working on. There are more planned,” he stated. “What we will do is learn about the topic and then build it. I don’t want to take away any element of surprise about our projects, but I do hope that the students will be as excited as I am about learning about the topics and then developing the projects”
