Taking time to relax during StayHomeMN

More and more, this writer is hearing from folks how difficult it is for them to relax during the StayHomeMN orders. In cooperating with the orders, people have been staying home more and have not had the opportunity to socialize like they have in the past. People staying home has aided the State of Minnesota in many ways as it prepares for more cases of COVID-19. But they have also experienced feelings of isolation which can help cause depression and thoughts that life is never going to really truly be sane and sensible again. This is a gentle reminder that, although there are some serious stresses during this time, there can be ways that the stressors can be reduced a bit. A favorite is deep breathing. Slowly count to three while taking in a deep breath and then very slowly, also while counting to three, release that breath. Continue to take a few deep breaths in this manner until you feel your body relax. Just a bit of humor: don’t do it for so long that you become light headed….that’s not a good idea.

While the weather was not as nice as what it is now, there were many suggestions about reading, journaling, watching movies, having family meals, working on crafts, visiting with family and friends via phone or other electronic methods and playing games. Now that the weather is much nicer, what follows are a few more suggestions for getting in a bit of relaxing activity.
