Launched in 2003, Skype is one of the longest running and most widely used video chat platforms.  Skype has a free video chat and messaging functions and can be used on nearly any computer or smart device (phone or tablet).  On a computer, chatting can be done in a browser (i.e. Chrome, Edge, Safari).  However, a dedicated app will make the experience better on a smart device. The platform also has the ability to connect to mobile and land line phones with a paid, monthly subscription.  Skype requires the creation of a username and password.

Google Hangouts
