Teen Read Week is a time to celebrate reading for fun while encouraging teens to take advantage of reading in all its forms —books, magazines, e-books, audiobooks and more! It is also a great opportunity to encourage teens to become regular library users. Teen Read Week is an annual initiative created by the American Libraries Association’s YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association), and is held every October.
In recent years, many families have had to adapt to make do with less as a result of the economy. Teen Read Week is a great opportunity for teens and their families to learn about all free library services and resources including books, movies, music, magazines, and internet access. Libraries also offer a safe and supervised space for adolescents to engage in creative, educational activities or to simply hang out. Take part in Teen Read Week and show teens that reading is a fun and relaxing activity they can do for free. As a thank-you to teens, Fulda Memorial Library will host a free pizza night and run a prize drawing for Amazon.com cash. If your teen hasn’t visited the public library in many years, this is great reason to revisit!
