Happy 2019. What a year 2018 was…not the best for me and my family but 2019 has promises for a better year.
The Fulda Food Shelf would like to thank the communities of Fulda, Dundee and Avoca for their continuous support throughout the past year as well as previous years.
We have several organizations and individuals that support us as well and I am going to try to list them. Hopefully I don’t miss anyone. First of all the Fulda School; elementary, high school, FFA and FCCLA have been wonderful with their collections. All I can say is WOW! Then all the area churches and their ladies groups, First Presbyterian Youth group with their Thanksgiving bags, the churches collections during the Thanksgiving service, Iron Horse Motorcycle Club, Murray County Commissioners, Murray County Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Fulda C & C, Murray County Masonic Lodge, Ag Star, Maynards, Sanford Medical Center with sports physical fees, Land O’ Lakes, Country Pride Services, Murray Co. Dairy Association,
The Community Play admission of food products, the winter ice days turkey bowling, Avoca Auxiliary, and then there were many, individuals that donated to us. They include Mona Henkels, Nina Schaefer, Mrs. Eldon Gehl, Sharon Carroll, Ron Renneke, Ardyce Schreiber, Gary Busch, and many I have probably forgotten over the past year. But a big thanks to all, Fulda and surrounding areas have been very supportive of their local food shelf. Now we have to say a special thanks to all the people who donated fresh produce during the summer and fall, Mary Saxhaug, Ken Salentiny, Darrel Ommen, Smokey Brandt, and Doug Stewart who supplies our eggs. Like I said, I certainly hope I didn’t forget someone…let me know, nicely. And lastly the miscellaneous items dropped off at St. Gabriel’s School and magically appear when we come to open up for the day.
Now to some other important people that work for us all year round. Of course, our board of directors which consist of Marge Winter, LeAnn Enninga, Diane Kirchner, Darcy Uttech, Linda Clauson, Alvin Thompson and Donna Chapman. Then our regular volunteers….Randy Kremer, Linda Clauson, Gwen Hartlep, Diane Kirchner, Jim Brown, Alvin Thompson and Donna Chapman. We have several people who come in to help us unload the SHH food truck…they include: Loren and Ruth Carlson, Ken Salentiny, Ron and Diane Kirchner, Mark Voss, Maurice Odenbrett, DarrelI Ommen and I certainly hope I did not forget anyone.
Now for a few statistics hopefully you will find interesting. Remember this is a duplicated count. In 2018 we served 289 families, which averages 24 families per month.
This equals 1109 individuals who benefitted from your donations. We gave out 11,799 lbs. of mostly nonperishable food products. We order from Second Harvest Heartland every two months which averages 1000 lbs and both nonperishable and perishable food products.
So lastly we at the Fulda Food Shelf would like to express our wholehearted thank you to all who supported us in anyway. And if you are in need, please feel free to call me at 425-2211, leave a message if I’m not there. We are also in need of volunteers especially during the day hours. Either regular or as a sub.
A quick reminder that all monetary contributions during January, February and early March can be sent to the Murray County Masonic Lodge so it can be doubled. Send to Steve Haugen, CPS, 2330 26th St., Slayton, MN 56171.
Thank you from all of us at the Fulda Food Shelf.
As always, call me if you have any questions or you may contact any Food Shelf board member.
