The End of 2016 and beginning of 2017…and what a beginning with this cold, cold weather.
Our Food Shelf wants to thank the communities of Fulda, Dundee, and Avoca for their participation in our food shelf. We have had donations from dozens of people…too numerous to mention all because I will certainly forget someone. Thanks to all who contributed in any way. A special thanks to our school children. They did a fantastic job raising 1500 plus pounds of food. WOW! Also to the Murray County Commissioners who have helped us out and to all the organizations that have been there for us. It’s quite an accomplishment for a small community.
The Second Harvest Heartland truck was here the fourth Thursday of December and helping us unload was Randy Kremer, Marsha Buschena, Loren Carlson, Gwen Hartlep, Jim Brown and myself. As always we have a special thank you to all our volunteers.
Statistics for 2016 are as follows: Duplicated count is 198 families and 847 individuals. Averages out about 11.50 pounds per person we are giving out each and every month. We have had 19 new individuals register this year so we stay about 30 families registered..Some come on a regular basis and others only when in need. I’m sure you will agree it feels good to be able to help people in our community.
On another note: Please remember all contributions from now until the end of February should be written to the Masonic Lodge in care of Steve Haugen in Slayton. The Masons have continually doubled all our contributions each year for the past several years. If you have any questions, please see free to call me at 425-2211
orr any Food Shelf board member.
Have a good week and or month and stay warm.
