Kansas City, Missouri – April 28, 2017 – From Dundee, Minnesota, Thomas Salentiny is motivated and determined to make a positive impact on the world. As a sophomore at South Dakota State University studying animal science, he is off to a good start.
From relevant work experience to collegiate opportunities, Salentiny pursues experiences that set him apart from his peers and prepare him to pursue a career in agriculture and food. Most recently, he was selected as an Agriculture Future of America Campus Ambassador.
AFA provides personal and professional development experiences for college students and young professionals in food and agriculture. Providing leader development, intern support and scholarships, AFA seeks to be a catalyst in the preparation of a new generation of agriculture leaders. Salentiny and his fellow team members serve as ambassadors between AFA and their college campuses and AFA’s corporate partners.
“AFA has driven me personally in becoming the advocate I am today. I enjoy knowing that there is so much opportunity within the industry of agriculture,” he said.
Salentiny and the other eighteen Campus Ambassadors were selected through a competitive application process to serve as AFA’s student voice and represent their peers on a national level. Salentiny says he is looking forward to his experiences with the team.
“I know that AFA has numerous opportunities that students otherwise would not be able to capitalize on. We are going into a generation that is going to depend on producing more food than ever and ensuring consumer safety. I know AFA has become a part of reaching these young minds and putting them into contact with the industry,” Salentiny said.
