Thursday was a day that three Warrior Training Academy Kenpo Karate students had looked forward to for a very long time. On July 11th, Jaxson Tiesler, Audra Homandberg, and Ryder Henning became Black Belts. They have been trained by Kenpo Karate instructor Jen Tiesler, owner of Warrior Training Academy.
The Black Belt testing session began at 9 a.m. Thursday morning, with the three students warming up for one hour. Their testing began at 10 a.m. and was about three and one-half hours in length. The students had to prove that they had memorized 122 techniques with take downs. They also had to know twelve forms, making up two of their own forms to complete the twelve. They also had to use weapons in the twelve forms. Tiesler used swords, Homandberg used A Bo Staff and Ryder used sais. At the end of the testing, their instructor announced that all had passed and Tiesler, Homandberg and Henning greeted their Black Belt certifications with smiles and a few fun photos!
To be ranked as a Kenpo Karate Black Belt requires a high level of dedication, practice, and skill.
In Kenpo Karate, the first three belt ranks are considered beginner ranks. Belts are white, yellow and orange. White Belts learn basic techniques and no self-defense techniques. Once these are learned, the students move on to the Yellow Belt rank which has 10 self-defense techniques. The Orange Belt has 24 self-defense techniques.
