Twenty-one students from Fulda High School attended the Minnesota Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Conference in Bloomington from March 28-30, 2019. The comprehensive leadership conference included awards, leadership training and an opportunity to hear outstanding speakers. At the Opening Session, Minnesota’s First Lady, Gwen Walz, a former high school state officer of the organization brought a Governor’s Proclamation which declared March 28 as MN FCCLA Day.
Members attended workshops on Leadership Qualities, Student Body, FACTS (Families Acting For Community Traffic Safety), Career Connections, Financial Fitness, and Community Service. The State Officers presented the state FCCLA theme, “Land of 10,000 Dreams”.
On Thursday, keynote speaker Morris Morrison spoke to attendees on his life story of diversity, and challenged youth DREAM bigger dreams, to set personal VALUES, GOALS & STANDARDS in life and to make BETTER CHOICES. Other speakers were Jerrid Sebesta who spoke about “Livin’the Dream- Purpose and Financial Wellness”, Mike Donahue, presented Value Up about developing leadership values and Craig Scott, who talked about being at Columbine High School when the shootings occurred 20 years ago and challenged youth to “Be kind…for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.”.
Nearly 1,000 students also participated in fifty STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition), categories with many receiving the option to qualify for the National FCCLA Conference at Anaheim, Ca. in July. On Friday night, members were recognized for their efforts in their STAR Events at the MN FCCLA Academy Awards. Those with qualifying scores were able to walk the “Walk of Stars” as they received their award.
