Heron Lake Watershed District, Minnesota Pollution control Agency and the University of Minnesota Extension hosted a “Where Does Your Water Go? West Fork Des Moines River” presentation and picnic on Tuesday, June 26th, in Fulda, at Fulda Legion/Community Hall. Included in the event were four presentations:
• Watersheds 101
• Status of the lakes and rivers in the West Fork Des Moines Watershed
• Overview of projects done so far, including the Fulda Wetland Restoration
• What Each of Us Can Do
Presenters were Danielle Evers, Area Certification Specialist with Pipestone County Conservation and Zoning Office, Karen Terry, University of Minnesota Extension Educator, and Ross Behrens, Heron Lake Watershed District.
Ross Behrens asked those present to individually identify themselves and say why water is of importance. Many stated that water provided great recreational opportunities. Others talked about the importance of water in all aspects of life, and the value of clean water sustaining life.
Evers spoke about the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program, explaining that it is a voluntary program to help farmers and landowners to everything they can to keep protecting Minnesota streams, rivers and lakes.
