Wolverines break open close game, claim 8-3 baseball win over Coyotes; Score is tied at 1-1 after four innings

In another highly-competitive high school varsity baseball game at Heron Lake’s Laker Field last Tuesday (May 7), the visiting Mountain Lake Area / Comfrey Wolverines pulled away in the late innings and earned an 8-3 victory over Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda in Red Rock Conference action.

The game was a low-scoring pitcher’s duel through the first four innings with the score deadlocked at 1-1 before the Wolverines crossed the plate three times in the top of the fifth and then scored four insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning.

The Coyotes rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, but ended up on the short end of an 8-3 final score.

The loss was the eighth straight for HL-O / Fulda after starting the season with three close wins in its first four games. Now sporting an overall record of 3-9 (2-6 in the conference) the Coyotes have a trio of home games remaining in the regular season. The final conference game is a makeup contest on Thursday (May 16) against Southwest Minnesota Christian / Edgerton.
