After overcoming a poor first-half shooting performance, the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda B-Squad girls basketball team rallied with a solid second half in a 38-29 loss to Mountain Lake Area / Comfrey on the home floor in Okabena last Tuesday evening, January 15.
A total of nine girls scored in the game for the Coyotes, who overcame a 22-7 halftime deficit with a strong all-around second half. HLOF outscored MLAC by a 22-16 margin after intermission, slicing the 15-point deficit down to nine by game’s end.
“Ice cold shooting doomed us in the first half as we just couldn’t get anything going,” summed up Coyotes’ Coach Jonathon Curry. “Our defense kept us in the game when we could not score. In the second half, we battled back and had chances to really cut into the lead, but the hole was just too big.”
Curry pointed that the Coyotes won the second half by six points — a big difference from when the two teams played each other at Mountain Lake back in December.
“The first time we played, Mountain Lake won by 18 points, outscoring us all game long. We cut that spread in half this time and continue to show our overall improvement. I am extremely proud of our B-Squad girls and how they continue striving to improve.”
Corrine Frodermann drilled a pair of three-pointers in the game and finished with eight points to lead a well-balanced Coyote scoring attack.
Faith White swished four free throws in the game and finished with six points, while Brooke Lais (three), Cheyliska Schaffer (two), Skylar Fisher (two), Taryn Evers (two), Brittany Lais (two), Addison Fisher (two) and Taylor Haberman (two) also scored for Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda.
