Year in review, 2017

The Associated Press conducts an annual top stories of the year poll. Editors and news directors vote for the top stories of the year, with the top ten being selected. The are listed below in order of their ranking.

1. Sexual misconduct: Scandals involving sexual misdeeds by prominent men have taken over the headlines. Entertainers, celebrity chefs and members of Congress are among those who have been accused.

2. Donald Trump’s First Year: The controversies started on Inauguration Day and persisted throughout the year.

3. Las Vegas mass shooting: Stephen Paddock unleashed a barrage of gunfire from a high-rise casino-hotel that killed 58 people and injured hundreds among a crowd attending an open-air concert along the Las Vegas Strip.

4. Hurricane onslaught: In a four-week span, hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria ravaged Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands.
